57 West Papuan Indigenous Pastors Ask Indonesian State to Give Opportunity for Referendum on independence in West Papua

JAYAPURA, SUARAPAPUA.com - A total of 57 West Papuan Catholic Priests from Five Dioceses in the Regions of Papua expressed their attitude that the Indonesian state should provide opportunities for West Papuans by making a political decision. The political decision in question is a referendum on independence for West Papua.

This was revealed by Father Alberto John Bunay, Person in Charge of 57 Indigenous Papuan Priests in Abepura, Tuesday (07/21/2020). According to 57 indigenous Papuan priests, the step is important to end various problems that occurred during the 50-years in West Papua.

"If the referendum results are held honestly and fairly and it turns out that the majority of the people of West Papua choose independence, then free West Papua, and there the Government of Indonesia remains with West Papua to bring West Papua as a leader in Melanesia to reach the golden age of the Pacific, so there are no more tears. and more blood on Papua and Indonesia, "he explained to reporters.

57 Papuan Catholic Indigenous Priests from the Five Dioceses in the Region of Papua gave transpormative thoughts towards a peaceful Indonesia and Papua to the Indonesian government.

First , the Indonesians and West Papuans share the same ideals and uphold the value of human life that exists in West Papua, based on the second principle: 'just and civilized humanity'.

Second , the Government of Indonesia and all the people of Indonesia recognize and uphold the dignity, status and dignity of indigenous Papuans as masters over their heritage.

"Therefore, Papuans must lead their own country. There must be responsible freedom in the hands of the West Papuan people for their country, and for their relationship with their adopted brothers Indonesia, "Father Bunay said.

"The Indonesian government can make a spectacular and very prestigious political decision to provide a referendum opportunity for West Papua. The government can accept any results from the West Papua Referendum, and will fully support Papua Reform after the great political decision. For these things, don't think about the advantages or disadvantages of natural resources in West Papua, "he stressed.

In the realm of West Papuan independence, added Father Bunay, the Papuan people are brothers and true friends of the Indonesian people. West Papua is Indonesia's main supporting partner in welcoming the great Indonesia, towards the golden age of the archipelago.
